Over the course of a career that's spanned three decades, 13 albums, Grammy and Golden Globe nominations, film and TV appearances (Buddy Holly in "La Bamba") and thousands of performances, Marshall Crenshaw's musical output has maintained a consistent fidelity to the qualities of artfulness, craftsmanship and passion, and his efforts have been rewarded with the devotion of a broad and remarkably loyal fan base. His debut album, Marshall Crenshaw, was acclaimed as a masterpiece upon its release in 1982 and established him as a singular songwriter, record maker, and guitarist.

THIS MONTH:

Southern Comfort Brunch by Chef Dustin Allen, featuring a true farm-to-plate Southern brunch with whole food ingredients from 100% local growers and producers.

Kind of Blue at 60: A Tribute to the Miles Davis Classic, featuring Edgar Crockett (trumpet), Dan Burke (tenor saxophone), Larry Harms (alto saxophone), Derel Monteith (piano), Andy Crawford (bass), and Jason Brannon (drums), who will perform faithful renditions of all the pieces on Kind of Blue in the same sequence they appear on the album.

WMBD’s Greg Batton (The Greg and Dan Show) hosts a new comedy series in Peoria Heights at the beautiful Betty Jayne Brimmer Center for the Performing Arts on September 28 at 7pm.

Greg kicks it off September 28 with Dr. Gonzo. Nationally known, but Central Illinois born and raised, Dr. Gonzo brings his guitar and hilarious way of looking at the world for our opening comedy event at The Betty Jayne! After years on the road with the likes of Huey Lewis, Jackson Brown and Santana, Dr. Gonzo is not to be missed. Joining him will be Matt Smith (Peoria’s funniest lawyer) and Eddy P (The KungFool Comic)! The show kicks off at 7pm and wraps up around 9pm, but stick around for drinks with the comics until 10!

Friday, September 27, kicks off the inaugural performance of the Hartford House Band Open Air Popup Sessions, a new series at the Betty Jayne that pops up when the weather is nice and the nana wall begs to be wide open to the fresh air. These sessions are open air, early sets (late afternoons on weekends and happy hour sessions during the week)...flavored by amazing craft beer on tap and a full bar. Hosts Nathan Taylor and Daniel Watkins will feature some of the best folk and bluegrass musicians in the Midwest, all paying tribute to the legendary John Hartford with songs he wrote and songs he loved.

New Heights is a full eight hours of music at the new Betty Jayne Brimmer Center for the Performing Arts, benefiting the extensive music education and cultural diplomacy work of the Bluegrass Ambassadors.
